25 Magical Mason Jar DIY Projects
Butterfly Jar
This is a really easy, quick and beautiful craft
Glass jar with lid or glass vase
Cardboard (if using vase)
Tree branch
Glue (I prefer a hot glue gun)
Tissue paper - green and pink (optional)
Butterflies
Spanish moss
Cut your branch down so it will fit into the glass vase. Remember this will be upside down and you will be adding a butterfly or two.
When you have you branch cut to size you will then mount the branch. For a jar with a lid this is very easy. A big glob of glue in the center of the lid/seal and you have the branch set.
For a vase there is a little more to it. Put the vase upside down on a piece of cardboard. Draw a circle around the vase. Cut this circle out just a little bit smaller then you have drawn. (this will fit just inside the mouth of the vase. Then draw a second circle the same way as the first only cut this one out a 1/2 inch larger all the way around the circle. In the center of this small circle, cut a hole just large enough for the bottom of the stem. (I just put scissors through and twisted them). Glue the Small circle on top of the big circle and make sure it is centered. Put a big glob of glue in the cut out hole and place your branch inside.
Now that you have your branches set it is time to add some leaves. Using green tissue (or whatever color you would like) cut it into 1 inch squares. Cut those squares into 4 pieces. Put the pieces on top of each other and twist the center. Put a glob of glue on this center and place your leaf where you want it. For a pink blossom I cut the 1 inch square into 4 pieces but only used 1 of those pieces (twist and glue).
When you have enough leaves and or blossoms it is time to place your butterflies. Again with glue, place them where you would like.
On the base of the cardboard and/or lid glue down some Spanish moss
Once you have the decorations the way you would like put the vase or jar upside down over the lid or cardboard. For the jar just screw it back on. For the cardboard, place the vase so the small cardboard is just inside and the large cardboard becomes the vase. Glue this in place. Then for both vase and jar glue more Spanish moss on the outside of the bottom. (just so you cant see the bottom).
